Taking the Public to the PSC
Our campaign to fight dirty methane gas in DC is at a critical junction. After a big win last summer, the DC Public Service Commission (PSC) is once again considering Washington Gas’ latest proposal to saddle residents with the cost of unnecessarily replacing its gas pipelines. We’re not fooled by Washington Gas’ scheming: this is a bold cash grab that will line the gas company’s pockets while residents pay the price.
We’re keeping the pressure on to let them know that the District is watching. We will rally in front of the PSC’s office to collect and deliver written messages to demand that the PSC reject Washington Gas's expensive and dangerous District UNsafe plan. This plan would lock us into paying $12 billion for decades of fracked methane gas pipelines, all to generate higher profits for Washington Gas. The people say NO to Washington Gas and its "accelerated pipeline replacement" profit schemes.
To ensure the message gets through, we plan to gather on the first Wednesday of each month at 8:15am.
Together with other groups, we won a long fight to get the PSC to reject Washington Gas' “Project Pipes” phase 3 plan. Now Washington Gas has re-branded it, and we'll defeat it again!

Extinction Rebellion DC Volunteer Day - Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild
Extinction Rebellion DC is inviting you out to the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild for a volunteer day on Wednesday, July 23 from 5pm to 8pm.
The Garden Guild is an 11-acre non-profit garden independent from the Monastery that grows thousands of pounds of produce a year for donation to local food banks and shelters.
We will be weeding, mulching, harvesting, and getting dirty with other general garden maintenance, so please wear long pants, socks, and closed toed shoes. You will get a chance to tour our gardens and the 100+ year-old greenhouse. This is a chance to learn some basic gardening techniques, and connect to local environmental advocates!
Note on accessibility: The entrances to the garden and greenhouse are paved, but the spaces between garden beds are not paved. There is a large bump to get into the garden gate that may be difficult for wheelchair users. We will be standing, squatting, bending, lifting, and using sharp gardening tools. There are shaded picnic tables at which to sit. We will assign gardening tasks based on physical needs as requested.

Film Screening: Exposing the Unspoken
“Exposing the Unspoken: Behind the Power 4 Southern People NOT Southern Company Movement”
A Documentary by Arm in Arm & The People’s Justice Council
Film screening at Solidarity City, in front of Union Station in DC, with rally and music to start at 7:00pm
While XRDC is battling the greed of Washington Gas and its parent AltaGas, there is a multi-state battle against a bigger utility parent company - the insidious Southern Company.
Why Southern Company?
Southern Company and their affiliates (Georgia Power, Alabama Power, and Mississippi Power) have been bad actors in the South for a long time. The second-largest utility company in the US, they have spent money on legislation and legislators that are anti-abortion, anti-voting, anti-climate, and anti-democracy. They pollute our groundwater and our air and destroy our communities. To learn more about Southern Company, their predatory practices, and environmental offenses, download the resources on this Linktree.
At Solidarity City, where there are activities all day & evening every day for a month: https://www.solidaritycity.org/

Washington Gas rate hike hearings & rally
The Public Service Commission doesn’t provide many opportunities for the public to get involved — but this month they are! The latest way to oppose Washington Gas (WGL)’s bad behavior is to show up at upcoming PSC hearings about WGL’s rate case (i.e., their request to increase everyone’s gas bills).
There are two more hearings this month:
April 21st, rally 4:30, hearing 5:00, Petworth Library, 4200 Kansas Ave NW
April 29th, rally 5:00, hearing 6:00, PSC office, 1325 G St NW
There are several ways to be involved:
You can speak during the hearing and be heard by PSC Commissioners, and/or
You can visually support our message, which could include attending the hearing in a Stop Project Pipes t-shirt, or posing as a construction worker outside to warn passersby that rate hikes are currently under construction!
If you are interested in participating in any way / on any day, please email extinctionrebelliondc@protonmail.com
If you know you want to speak at a hearing, please also sign up via this form from our friends at CCAN (they’ll provide you with talking points, among other support): https://act.ccanactionfund.org/page/80783/data/1

Debt for Climate Forum and Overflow: A Night of Connection & Care
Come for any part of this enriching evening:
5:00-6:00 Global Debt Forum (organized by Debt for Climate and friends)
6:00-8:00 Meal, conversations, singing and more (organized by Solidarity City)
8:00-10:00 Overflow: A Night of Connection & Care (original title: Organizer Mixer)
Come early for political education on Global South debt. Stay for the middle for informal conversations, music and other cultural programming. Then finish the evening with a grounding activity to help us re-fill for our days ahead.
In a world that constantly pulls at our energy, Overflow invites us into sacred pause—a space where we can pour into one another, reflect, and refill. This is more than a mixer; it’s a gathering of hearts and minds across movement spaces, a moment to breathe life back into our collective purpose.
Come as you are. Share space with fellow organizers, healers, artists, and change-makers. Through conversation, intention, and joy, we’ll reconnect to what fuels us—and to each other. Let this be a night where we remember that we are not alone in the work, and that care is not a luxury, but a strategy.
Join us for an evening of nourishment, connection, and overflow.
This will all happen at Solidarity City, where there are activities all day & evening every day for a month, starting April 20: https://www.solidaritycity.org/
