XRDC REGENERATIVE CULTURE
Welcome to the online home of XRDC’s Regenerative Culture Working Group. This web page is maintained by our current Coordinator, Ellen, and was last updated on January 15, 2020. To get involved or to contact us, please email ellenmcs@protonmail.com.
WHAT IS REGENERATIVE CULTURE?
For many XR Rebels, Regenerative Culture (or Regen for short) is a big part of what makes our movement special. Regen can be embodied and defined in many different ways. Here are a few:
Our current climate and ecological crises are sustained by toxic cultural conditions and expectations. In order to avoid replicating these conditions within our movement, we must work to create a Regenerative Culture and model different ways of working and being together.
The climate crisis is a source of distress for many people. XR Regenerative Culture can connect the DC community to resources that help them move through climate anxiety, grief, and existential distress.
Engaging in climate activism can be difficult work. A Regenerative Culture within our chapter can help Rebels resolve conflicts, strengthen relationships, and avoid burnout.
Avoiding climate catastrophe will require that societies across the globe make broad, sweeping changes to the way they live. Regenerative Culture advocates can teach new skills and offer a positive vision of how these changes can benefit all of us.
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN XRDC’S REGEN WORKING GROUP?
Become a Regenerative Facilitator. Regen Facilitators perform a key role in XRDC by leading post-action debriefs, feedback sessions, and conflict engagement processes, among others.
Join our Jail Support Team. This group provides moral and physical support (i.e. tea, snacks, a listening ear, a ride home) to those who have been arrested during acts of nonviolent civil disobedience.
Join our Action Well-Being Team. You may find yourself handing an apple to a hungry protester, or helping an activist process a difficult interaction with police.
Join our Regenerative Event Planning Team. From hikes to happy hours to weekend training retreats, this group helps XRDC Rebels (and friends) get together in person in ways that restore and refresh.
